Frances Jane “Fanny” Crosby (1820-1915) was one of the best-known women in the United States in her time. Though she was blind from her infancy, she had a thankful heart and once said that had it not been for her affliction, she might not have had so good an education or so great an influence, and certainly not so fine a memory (she had memorized multiple books of the Bible by the time she was 15 years old). She became one of the most prolific hymnwriters in history, writing more than 8000 hymns (under more than 100 pseudonymns), including Blessed Assurance; Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour; and To God Be the Glory. D. L. Moody and Ira Sankey have her hymns to thank for much of the success of their evangelical campaigns in the late 1800s.
Chester G. Allen (1838-1878) was an American teacher, composer, and musical writer. He wrote tunes for several of Fanny Crosby’s hymns.

Praise Him, Praise Him
Words: Fanny Crosby, 1869
Music: Lazio, Chester G. Allen
Verse 1
Praise Him, praise Him—Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer,
Sing, O earth, His wonderful love proclaim.
Hail Him! hail Him! highest archangels in glory;
Strength and honor give to His holy name!
Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,
In His arms He carries them all day long:
Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness;
Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!
Verse 2
Praise Him, praise Him—Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer,
For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died;
He our rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
Hail Him, hail Him, Jesus the Crucified.
Sound His praises, Jesus who bore our sorrows,
Love unbounded, wonderful, deep, and strong.
Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness;
Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!
Verse 3
Praise Him, praise Him—Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer,
Heav’nly portals loud with hosannas ring,
Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever.
Crown Him! Crown Him—Prophet, and Priest, and King!
Christ is coming, over the world victorious.
Pow’r and glory unto the Lord belong.
Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness; Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!
