Week 44: Wednesday

We discipline ourselves for godliness. We have been redeemed by God that we might live a life worthy of God and our Lord Jesus Christ, to live a life of excellence, to possess a compelling testimony to the truth and person of Christ and his Kingdom. We pursue a life of dedication, discipline, and sacrifice based on the truth of God’s Word in Christ and in Scripture, where one’s life is lived in a manner worthy of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, for the purpose of demonstrating Christlike character in the roles, relationships, and responsibilities that God provides, done for the glory of God.

To be a leader is to be an example. Leaders explicitly take on this responsibility. If people are going to follow, you must provide them a pattern. While Jesus himself is the ultimate pattern, he has assigned leaders to the Church as examples of how a person in our own time and context can truly become like Christ.

Holy Spirit, form in us the character of Jesus that we might be an example to all who see us.

Wednesday: John 18.1-24; Mark 14.32-52; Matt. 26.36-56; Luke 22.39-53

If the life of Christ is in a man, it expresses itself like “a well of water springing up” or bubbling over.
