We rejoice in so far as we share in the sufferings of Christ. Jesus’s own life serves as the pattern for all Christians. Following Jesus will inevitably involve imitating him in both sacrifice and suffering. We ought not be surprised at suffering and adversity. Instead, we must recognize that suffering for the cause of Christ is one of the great privileges given to those who represent him in this world.

Invocation: Our Prayer of Acclamation
Thank you, Father, for giving us the privilege of sharing in the sufferings of Christ. He gave himself for us in order that we might know you, and now, we embrace his pattern of suffering as our own. Fill us with your Holy Spirit, that we may imitate our Lord both in the spirit and action of his sacrifice for us. Give us courage to stand in the face of opposition and persecution, and enable us to represent you with honor in the midst of this fallen world. For Christ’s sake we pray, amen.

Call to Worship
Blessed are you, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And blessed is your Kingdom, both now and forever, amen.

Te Deum Laudamus 
You are God: we praise you; you are the Lord; we acclaim you; you are the eternal Father: All creation worships you. To you all angels, all the powers of heaven, Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

The glorious company of apostles praise you. The noble fellowship of prophets praise you. The white-robed army of martyrs praise you. The Apostles’ Creed

Assurance of Pardon
Having faithfully confessed and renounced your sin, Christ also has been faithful to forgive your sins and to purify you from all unrighteousness. It is certain, that there is One who has spoken to the Father in your defense, Jesus Christ, the Righteous One who is the atoning sacrifice for our sins and for the sins of the whole world. Pray without Ceasing – Flash Prayer for the Day
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for granting to us the privilege of suffering for the sake of Christ, and for representing you as we seek to advance your Kingdom in the world.

The holy priesthood is to live holy lives before God and the world (1 Peter 3:12), allow their good works to bring glory to God (1 Peter 2:12) and even use worthless good conduct as means of winning unbelievers to Christ, even – or especially – within the context of suffering. Believers are being formed into a community of sanctified priests whose purpose is to worship God in the spirit by the performance of sacrificial deeds.
