Week 40: Saturday

After the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, a community of three thousand believers began to live as the first Christian Church. The Spirit-filled Church displays the shalom (peace, wholeness) of God’s Kingdom. The community of believers experiences the power of answered prayer, regeneration and new life, the wholeness of God in righteousness and peace, and the powers of the age to come, all in a community of love. Truly, eternal life is ours, and we live as citizens of heaven.

Every day the numbers of the new Church swelled. People tasted and saw the goodness of God and of his Kingdom. This has always been God’s method of drawing people to faith. The Church not only proclaims the message of Christ, but we demonstrate it in our life together.

God our Father, draw all people to your Son by the power of your Holy Spirit working in your Church.

Saturday: Mark 5; Matt. 8.28-34; 9.18-26; Luke 8.26-56

We are members of the royal priesthood because we are united to Christ. He is the Priest-King, and our priestly practices all flow from sharing in his ministry as the head of God’s royal and priestly family. In the grace of the Holy Spirit, we must daily decide to walk in this truth.
