Week 40: Thursday

After the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, a community of three thousand believers began to live as the first Christian Church. The Spirit-filled Church displays the shalom (peace, wholeness) of God’s Kingdom. The community of believers experiences the power of answered prayer, regeneration and new life, the wholeness of God in righteousness and peace, and the powers of the age to come, all in a community of love. Truly, eternal life is ours, and we live as citizens of heaven.

Jesus summarized the whole Law of God in two commands: Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself. In the early Church the Holy Spirit begins to fulfill this command as everyone shares with those in need. They truly loved one another as they loved themselves, and we should certainly follow their example.

Lead us, Holy Spirit, to fulfill God’s will by loving our neighbors as we love ourselves.

Thursday: Luke 8.1-8, 19-21; Mark 3.20-4.20; Matt. 12.22-13.9

We are members of the royal priesthood because we are united to Christ. He is the Priest-King, and our priestly practices all flow from sharing in his ministry as the head of God’s royal and priestly family. In the grace of the Holy Spirit, we must daily decide to walk in this truth.
