Week 31: Thursday

The Kingdom of God is God’s sovereign intent to re-establish his rule and authority in this world, and to do so through the redemptive work of his Son, Jesus of Nazareth. This effort to “make things new” again is the core biblical teaching of Jesus and the ultimate point of reference on the meaning of life, under God’s rule. The Kingdom Story was the heart of Jesus’s teaching, and is the central focus of biblical theology. Truly, the story of Scripture, and of all creation, is the victory of God’s Kingdom through Jesus Christ.

For reasons that are sometimes hard to fathom, God has actually entrusted us with the words of eternal life. He has called us to be ambassadors of his Kingdom in a dark world. As small as we may feel, or as often as we may mess up, this dignified and profound purpose remains. Let us then live as if this were true. Let us guard the good deposit of faith and represent Christ in the world.

Father, we thank you for the honor of representing your Son in the world. Fill us with your Spirit that we may truly fulfill our duty and glorify your name.
